Reindeer Games: 5 Holiday Themed PE Activities with Railyard Fitness

Railyard Fitness Presents: Reindeer Games

Each of these games encourages teamwork, agility, and creativity while embracing the holiday spirit.

  1. Rudolph’s Relay
    • Objective: Teams compete to guide “Rudolph” to deliver presents as fast as possible.
    • Setup:
      • Divide the group into teams.
      • Place your Railyard Course and cones in a zigzag pattern to create an “obstacle course.”
      • Each team has a red foam ball (“Rudolph’s nose”) and a small sack of “presents” (beanbags).
    • Rules:
      • The first player balances the foam ball on their nose (Or hold ball for younger kids) while holding the sack.
      • They navigate the course without dropping the ball or presents.
      • If anything drops, they return to the start of the course.
      • The next player goes when the first finishes.
    • Winning: The team to complete the relay first wins.
  2. Santa’s Sack Toss
    • Objective: Toss “presents” into Santa’s sack from varying distances.
    • Setup:
      • Use buckets or hula hoops as “Santa’s sack” targets, each worth different points based on difficulty.
      • Provide beanbags or small balls as “presents.”
    • Rules:
      • Players take turns tossing presents into the sacks.
      • Adjust distances based on age/skill level.
    • Winning: The player or team with the most points after a set time wins.
  3. Candy Cane Capture
    • Objective: Steal the opposing team’s candy canes without getting tagged.
    • Setup:
      • Divide the group into two teams.
      • Place Railyard course and cones to mark each team’s “base.”
      • Use pool noodles or large candy-cane props as the goal objects.
    • Rules:
      • Players attempt to steal candy canes from the opposing team’s base and bring them back to their own without being tagged.
      • Tagged players must freeze or return to their base.
    • Winning: The team with the most candy canes at the end wins.
  4. Reindeer Dash
    • Objective: Work together to “pull Santa’s sleigh” as a team.
    • Setup:
      • Use large ropes or hula hoops as sleighs.
      • Divide into small teams of “reindeer” who pull one team member as the “Santa” in the sleigh.
    • Rules:
      • Teams race from the start line to a turnaround point and back.
      • Rotate who gets to be Santa after each race.
    • Winning: The team with the fastest cumulative time wins.
  5. Snowball Showdown
    • Objective: Throw and dodge “snowballs” (soft foam balls) to hit players on the opposing team.
    • Setup:
      • Divide the playing area with cones or tape to create two zones.
      • Then have each team build a Railyard "fort" as place to regroup and strategize.
      • Each team has a pile of foam balls (“snowballs”).
    • Rules:
      • Players throw snowballs to hit opponents while dodging incoming snowballs.
      • If hit, a player sits out until their team catches a snowball.
      • Include optional “safe zones” for a quick rest.
    • Winning: The team with the most players left standing after a set time wins.
